Oral Cancer Screenings
An oral cancer screening is an important part of your routine dental appointment. Many lesions are not detectable with the naked eye, and studies show that one person dies every 24 hours from oral cancer. Our OralID is a special light used to illuminate the tissues in the mouth to identify any abnormalities that are otherwise invisible, which allows earlier diagnosis and treatment. This simple, inexpensive service is recommended once per year for all adults–it is not limited to tobacco users. We now know that age, a history of alcohol or tobacco use, and the virus HPV16 contracted by sexual activity are all contributors to the incidence rate of oral cancer. We will recommend and offer an oral cancer screening at every dental appointment—it is THAT important to us.
